JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Litigation Specialist is primarily responsible for participating in all aspects of the dispute and litigation process, from the initiation of a claim or case to the discovery period through settlement, trial and post-trial proceedings and appeals, including reporting on matters and budgeting. This role will work in tandem with all members of the in-house legal department.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Manages all aspects of litigation support services, including (a) preparing, reviewing, and/or revising a variety of litigation-related documents that may include pleadings, releases, settlement agreements, formal written correspondence (b) assisting with discovery, investigating facts, researching and many other facets of law, (c) coordinating with outside counsel regarding all facets of pending litigation, including discovery and billing, and (d) monitoring deadlines for cases.
  • Designs and conducts reviews of statutory agent’s online service database for new lawsuits, demand letters, etc., being served upon Greystar entities and vets the information to determine relevancy; distributes newly received services to the appropriate Greystar teams; follows up on response deadlines. 
  • Researches and gathers facts, documents, and evidence to assist in the defense or initiation of legal action through outside counsel.
  • Prepares and issues “litigation hold” notices, coordinates searches with internal Greystar teams of data on Company systems, reviews data production results, and produces collected data to the subpoenaing party or local counsel.
  • Reviews queries from Greystar team members, directs team members to appropriate resources, and consults with internal Greystar attorneys for responses or engaging with local counsel.
  • Prepares, reviews, and/or revises pleadings, releases, settlement agreements, affidavits and other legal documents, correspondence and exhibits.
  • Assists with discovery requests and responses, conducts document searches, organizes documents and coordinates document productions, including bates-stamping, redaction and production logs.
  • Performs the processes and tracking mechanisms established for litigation management, litigation holds, accruals, reporting and service of process intake.
  • Processes invoices and tracks legal matter budgets, settlement accruals, and reserves.
  • Performs other projects as requested to support Greystar’s Legal Services team.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and in a self-directed fashion with excellent interpersonal, organizational, planning, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, organize and prioritize workload, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with strong interpersonal skills including tact/diplomacy, persuasion, negotiation, and cooperation.
  • Strong working knowledge of advance functions of Microsoft Office (including Word, Outlook and Excel), Adobe Acrobat, and ability to understand and utilize databases.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Assertive with the motivation to work independently and self-directed.
  • Understanding of complex legal concepts and terminology with proven ability to adapt skills and knowledge base quickly to learn of legal and risk issues.
  • Willing to perform under tight deadlines and appropriately prioritize work while maintaining patience in high pressure situations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of three years of experience with litigation support services.
  • A paralegal certification is not required for this position, although candidates with such qualifications may be considered.

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000

Additional Compensation:

Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range including business requirements, prior experience, current skills and geographical location.

  • Corporate Positions: In addition to the base salary, this role may be eligible to participate in a quarterly or annual bonus program based on individual and company performance.

  • Onsite Property Positions: In addition to the base salary, this role may be eligible to participate in weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly bonus programs.
