JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Director, Web Platform Engineering leads Greystar's web platform team and owns technical direction for greystar.com and the broader Sitecore-based web ecosystem, a multi-year platform commitment whose primary job is turning visitors into leases, and happy residents! You partner
with the product lead, who owns the roadmap and business direction, as a technical peer, a genuine technical counterpart to product on where the platform goes next.

This is a leader-doer role for a small but mighty strong team. You’ll bring deep, hands-on expertise in Sitecore AI, while staying solutions-focused rather than platform-focused. Sitecore is the backbone of how we deliver, not the default answer to every problem. You’ll bring that same flexibility in how the platform approaches search and discovery, and build culture of shared documentation and knowledge so expertise lives with the team rather than any one person. You'll also invest directly in developing the engineers on your team and work across our global organization.

You'll set technical direction, stay hands-on, and hold yourself and the team to a standard of collaborative decision-making. As part of the Data, Digital, and AI (D2AI) organization, you'll coordinate with fellow D2AI teams (data platform, CI, AI engineering) on how the web platform connects to broader data and AI capabilities.

JOB DESCRIPTION

What You Will Do
Technical Direction & Product Partnership
• Own technical direction for the web platform, partnering with the product lead as a peer to shape priorities and sequencing together.
• Translate business priorities (leads and leases, campaign enablement, SEO,
personalization and experimentation) into technical strategy.
• Represent the web platform in enterprise technology planning, aligning direction with the rest of D2AI and broader Greystar priorities.

Lead From the Front
• Stay hands-on: contribute directly and daily to architecture, code review, and development across the platform.
• Set the technical example for the team, modeling the standard of work and collaborative decision-making you expect from them.

Web Platform Architecture & Engineering
• Bring deep, hands-on expertise in Sitecore AI, Vercel, and any other evolving web-based technologies across Greystar’s digital properties, with greystar.com as the flagship.
• Own architectural decisions for personalization, experimentation, and content delivery on the platform.
• Guide the team's ongoing development, staying current on the platform's roadmap and capabilities as Greystar's committed CMS.
• Guide architecture and strategy for site search and discovery, ensuring relevance and performance keep pace with business goals.
• Partner with the marketing team on content management and operations needs as they evolve.
• Coordinate with D2AI's data platform and CI teams on how the web platform consumes and exchanges data (Cosmos DB, Salesforce, Databricks), partnering on integration points without owning that broader architecture.

AI-Forward Engineering Practices
• Use AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) in your own day-today work, modeling high-leverage, AI-forward practices for the team.
• Champion automated testing practices, unit tests, visual regression tests, or similar, as AIaccelerated development increases the pace and volume of change.
• Evaluate and adopt AI-enabled tooling for content operations, personalization, and testing.
• Coach the team on effective, responsible use of AI in their own engineering workflows.

People Leadership, Mentorship & Career Management
• Lead, coach, and grow the existing team, providing hands-on technical guidance and architectural thinking.
• Own performance management, career development, and growth planning for each team member; mentorship and career growth are core expectations of this role.
• Hire selectively to complement the team's existing strengths as the roadmap requires.

Platform Documentation & Knowledge Distribution
• Document architecture, integrations, and operational knowledge so it lives with the team, not any single person.
• Cross-train the team and distribute access and ownership so no one, including you, becomes the only person who can operate a given part of the platform.
Production Support & Operations
• Own break-fix resolution and production support (L2/L3) for the web platform, in-house, ensuring issues are resolved within SLA.
• Maintain release processes, deployment standards, and on-call practices for the team.

How You Operate
• Strong opinions, weakly held: you can pivot fast when the situation calls for it, no sacred cows, no attachment to a decision just because you made it.
• You're comfortable moving forward when strategy is still taking shape, and you don't need every answer settled to make progress.
• You look for pragmatic, collaborative paths forward, the phased rollout or the wellscoped experiment, rather than forcing all-or-nothing choices.
• You document and share knowledge as second nature, and you take real satisfaction in building up the people around you.
• You see the product lead as a genuine partner in shaping the platform's direction.

What You Bring
Web Platform Engineering Excellence
• 10+ years of web platform or CMS engineering experience, with deep, current, hands-on expertise in Sitecore AI and headless implementations. This is not a role for someone who has moved fully away from the keyboard.
• Strong hands-on background in modern headless frontend architecture and Vercel or similar deployment platforms.
• Deep experience with search platforms (Coveo, Algolia, Elasticsearch, or similar) is a must. Coveo experience specifically is valued.
• Proficient with Git and modern CI/CD practices; experience with GitHub and GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps.

Leadership & Communication
• 5+ years leading engineering teams, with a genuine, demonstrable track record of mentoring engineers and helping them grow their careers.
• Experience partnering with a product lead or product manager who owns roadmap direction, in a peer relationship rather than a reporting one.
• Strong executive communication skills, with the ability to represent the platform to senior technology and business leadership.

AI & Modern Tooling
• Deep, hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or Copilot, not just awareness of them.
• Genuine enthusiasm for using AI to accelerate engineering work, with real examples of how you've applied it.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience partnering with marketing teams on content management platforms and operations.
• Experience on a conversion-focused digital platform (lead generation or e-commerce, not just content/brand).
• Experience operating a platform across multiple regions (this platform also supports Greystar's European operations).
• Datadog or equivalent monitoring/observability expertise.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent
experience.

Tools & Technologies
Sitecore AI, Next.js/React (App Router), Vercel, Coveo, Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Git, LaunchDarkly, Datadog, Figma, Linear, AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot)

The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $170,000 USD Annually.
