JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Executive Leadership & Team Oversight
Provide senior leadership, direction, and oversight to the Insurance and Legal Triage team, ensuring alignment with enterprise risk, legal, and operational priorities.
Establish and enforce standards for intake, review, escalation, and documentation of matters across all lines of business.
Lead workforce planning, capacity management, and delegation strategies to ensure resources are aligned with volume, risk severity, and service‑level expectations.
Mentor and develop management and senior‑level team members; build bench strength and succession readiness within the function.
Serve as the final escalation point and subject matter expert for complex, high‑exposure, or time‑sensitive legal and claims matters.
Claims, Risk, & Coverage Leadership
Provide strategic oversight of claim intake and preliminary evaluation activities across the company’s insurance programs.
Apply advanced expertise in policy interpretation and coverage analysis related to:
-Builder’s Risk and Casualty
-Pollution Liability
-Environmental Impairment Liability
-Property and General Liability
Oversee identification, assessment, and prioritization of environmental hazards (e.g., hazardous materials, mold, asbestos, lead), ensuring appropriate urgency, documentation, and cross‑functional response.
Evaluate potential regulatory exposure and agency involvement (e.g., EPA, CERCLA/Superfund, RCRA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and applicable state or local authorities), and advise leadership accordingly.
Legal Document Triage & Enterprise Escalation
Direct the enterprise review and routing of legal letters, claims, lawsuits, pleadings, complaints, and other legal process to appropriate Legal, Risk, and Operations stakeholders.
·Ensure consistent, timely escalation of high‑risk, high‑severity, or precedent‑setting matters to executive leadership, internal counsel, and risk partners.
Act as a senior liaison with service of process vendors, litigation teams, and risk stakeholders to resolve complex service, timing, or jurisdictional issues.
Systems Governance, Compliance & Reporting
Provide ownership and governance of matter management and RMIS systems to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness.
Establish standardized controls for deadline tracking, court dates, regulatory timelines, and compliance obligations.
Define, monitor, and report enterprise KPIs related to intake accuracy, turnaround times, escalation effectiveness, compliance, and workload trends.
Deliver executive‑level reporting and insights to senior management on matter status, emerging risks, process performance, and capacity considerations.
Process Improvement, Policy & Program Development
Own the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of departmental policies, procedures, and triage frameworks.
Lead operational excellence initiatives, including automation, workflow optimization, and standardization across legal intake and claims triage processes.
Drive innovation and knowledge‑management strategies related to legal, claims, and risk document handling.
Provide oversight and guidance on Electronically Stored Information (ESI) requests and related legal support activities, as applicable.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred in Business, Real Estate, Risk Management, or a related field.
Paralegal certificate not required but considered a plus.
Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in insurance claims handling or adjusting, including leadership responsibility for complex or high‑exposure matters.
Extensive knowledge of risk management principles, insurance policy interpretation, and end‑to‑end claims and litigation processes.
Proven experience with Builder’s Risk, Casualty coverage, and wrap‑up programs strongly preferred.
Background in multi‑family real estate, construction, environmental, or complex commercial claims highly desirable.
Demonstrated experience leading teams, managing managers or senior professionals, and driving performance through delegation and accountability.
Advanced understanding of litigation documents, demand letters, pleadings, regulatory deadlines, and escalation thresholds.
Proficiency with SaaS RMIS platforms and legal matter management or docketing systems.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Exceptional analytical, communication, judgment, and executive‑level reporting skills.
Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑volume, and deadline‑driven enterprise environment.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS:
Enterprise‑level experience managing and overseeing relationships with insurance carriers, TPAs, brokers, insurance defense firms, and internal legal and risk teams.
Advanced expertise across complex commercial claim lines, including General Liability, Commercial Auto, Umbrella/Excess, Professional Liability, Cyber, and Employment Practices Liability (EPL).
Demonstrated ability to govern legal and claims systems, ensure data integrity, and leverage reporting to inform leadership decisions; experience with TyMetrix or similar platforms preferred.
Experience within property management, real estate, construction, or multi‑line commercial environments, with a strong understanding of industry‑specific risk profiles, preferred but not required.
TRAVEL / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Team members work in an office or remote work environment. No special physical demands are required.
Rare or occasional travel may be required to attend business meetings, training programs, or other situations necessary for the accomplishment of some or all of the daily responsibilities of this position.

Additional Compensation:
Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range including business requirements, prior experience, current skills and geographical location.
Corporate Positions: In addition to the base salary, this role may be eligible to participate in a quarterly or annual bonus program based on individual and company performance.
Onsite Property Positions: In addition to the base salary, this role may be eligible to participate in weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly bonus programs.
