Job Responsibilities

Supporting the UK/Ireland and Spain teams with operational procurement support and working with the Operational teams across the rest of Europe to support growth across the region and to deliver value at the asset level.


This role is more than ‘just a Category Manager’. It is an exciting opportunity to add value to Greystar’s properties, deliver change, embed processes and continuously deliver improvements within the Procurement function.


JOB DESCRIPTION

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Leads the UK&I and Spain (property) Operations and Corporate (services) Procurement Team. Responsible for end-to-end procurement processes including Request for Proposals (RFPs), negotiation and Supplier Relationship Management (SRM). 
  • Accountable for the property operations and corporate supply chain. Ensures visibility of the Development and Capital Projects supply chain; to support consistency and use of buying power. Ensures the supplier relationship framework is applied; generating value.
  • Accountable for embedding the new supplier onboarding solution with Proactis across Europe and the continuous improvement of the process
  • Manages the contract (and legal) review process; staffing appropriate recommendations to department leads.  Accountable for ensuring strong analysis of Greystar’s suppliers and their markets underpins procurement recommendations.
  • Responsible for procurement strategy (working closely with Operations Directors and key corporate/head office stakeholders including Asset Management), including maximizing growth and scaling opportunities, and implementing (best in market) innovative solutions.
  • Ensures Procurement is drawing on a broad range of sourcing approaches and applying the most appropriate to gain commercial value (e.g. direct negotiation, RFI, RFQ).
  • Acts as escalation point for supplier performance issues and ensures resolution and further escalation as needed.     
  • Captures and makes required changes to procurement contracts and ways of working.
  • Ensures supplier and delivery risks are being identified and managed and escalated applying the Greystar risk framework. Ensures correct procurement/supply chain governance; including use of Greystar procurement policies, processes, tools and templates by all those participating in procurement activities.
  • Supports property and corporate business planning and budgeting.
  • Monitors and updates (as needed) communications and training materials and channels relating to procurement/how to do it. 
  • Completes any other human resources, financial, administrative, and other reports and analysis, and performs other duties as assigned or as necessary for the effective performance of the role.
  • Manages stakeholders across the corporate teams and aligns business priorities


Organisational Responsibilities

  • Follows established policies and procedures by monitoring and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, organisational standards, and operational processes related to area(s) of responsibility and reporting violations or infractions to appropriate individual(s).
  • Demonstrates appropriate safe behaviours in accordance with Company, property, and departmental policies, procedures, and standards by immediately reporting any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, employee/visitor/resident injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to appropriate individual(s).
  • Identifies areas for improvement, offers suggestions to improve efficiency and productivity, and implements ideas that achieve operational excellence.
  • Keeps abreast of current changes in technology, processes, and standards within the industry and area(s) of responsibility by attending internal and external training classes. Attends industry events and represents Greystar to the industry in a professional capacity.

Role Scope

  • The role reports into the Operations Director, Europe but also has key stakeholder engagement across all of the European operational and Asset Execution teams (including Asset Management, Marketing, Capital Projects).
  • The role will provide strong support to the rest of UK&I/Spanish property operations and European corporate team, and other departments/stakeholders.
  • The role will have overall accountability for the successful management of the property operations and corporate services procurement in UK&I. 
  • The role will engage closely with Advantage Solutions (procurement elements – in the US), and procurement leads from other Greystar Europe countries.

Key Relationships

  • This role will interact with senior business leaders across property operations, corporate/head office and Development.
  • The role will need to build relationships with other (corporate) stakeholders, including Asset Management, Legal, Sustainability, and Risk/Compliance.
  • And those focused on day to day operations at properties, including regional operations managers, community (property) managers, and Facilities Management.
  • The role will maintain links to Greystar US and other European countries to support the application of global scale; including use of global agreements (as appropriate) in UK&I.

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a related business or analytical subject.
  • Trained and skilled in all elements of procurement.
  • MCIPS qualified or studying towards (or equivalent).

Experience & Skills

  • Experienced Category Manager (preferably a Senior Category or Buying Manager) who has breadth in their buying experience relevant to the role.
  • Have worked in organizations of a similar size, ideally in Real Estate, Retail, or Hospitality. 
  • Experience of leading multiple procurement categories, with strong awareness of the drivers of value for all categories in scope.
  • A positive team player, comfortable working in a fast paced (and often changing) environment, with an adaptable and flexible approach.
  • An ability to work collaboratively to drive results and support the wider team and business objectives.
  • Can seamlessly oscillate between ‘getting hands dirty’ tactical and more strategic work. Can deliver a strategic plan, as well as tactical buying. The successful applicant must be both a doer and a thinker.
  • Proven ability to establish trusted relationships.  Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with impact and influence. 
  • Comfortable operating and delivering outside of areas of no direct line accountability.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills. Experience of leading and building teams, and procurement capability.
  • Demonstrable experience of improving and embedding processes.
  • Deep commercial experience. Proven ability to lead complex negotiations.
  • Has a strong network, both across procurement and supply base, which supports innovation.
  • Experience of maintaining and operating policy and governance and process updates.
  • Excellent organisation skills, including the ability to prioritise workload and show good judgment under pressure.
  • Self-starter. Proactive. Highly motivated to achieve results and success for the business.
