Job Responsibilities

The Canada Development Accountant will be responsible for preparing and maintaining the financial information for multiple large projects. Monthly duties will include preparation of draws and financial statements, initiating wire payments and recording in Oracle, distributing information to partners, and answering queries. The position will be part of a regionally focused accounting team, collaborating to achieve department and company-wide goals. The Accountant must have the ability to work both independently and within a team setting.


JOB DESCRIPTION

•    Financial Accounting – Applies generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and/or international financial reporting standards (IFRS) to oversee and approve financial transactions and reports by checking calculations, reviewing support, reconciling transactions and schedules. Develops and implements accounting control procedures based on company standards. Analyzes revenue and expenditure trends and recommending appropriate budget levels to ensure expenditure control.

•    Cost Accounting & Budget Management – Assists with management of development budgets for all aspects of the project life cycle. Completes various forecasting and analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness of job cost reports. 

•    Cash Management – Accurately and timely manages all assigned cash accounts. Performs monthly bank reconciliations, wire transfers, deposits, and other payment processes to ensure vendors are paid in a timely manner.  Effectively works with corporate and development teams to accurately forecast cash needs.

•    Project Abstracts – Develops a general understanding of the underlying agreements and investment materials for assigned projects. Works to become familiar with the specific sections that are relevant to better understand the overall structure, including commitments, cost classifications, JV and lender requirements, and project fees. 

•    Customer Relationships - Establishes and maintains professional communication with all internal and external project stakeholders. Ensures customer satisfaction by responding to various requests from external investors, lenders, and others related to financial reports and development draws/capital calls.  

•    Collaboration – Establishes and maintains professional communication with all internal and external project stakeholders. Develops working relationships with other departments including but not limited to; Accounts Payable, Finance, Asset Management, Property Management, Development and Construction.
 •    Annual Audits - Acts as liaison to internal and external auditors by explaining journal entries and other financial transactions.  Provides research and information as requested and answering questions necessary to complete the audit in a timely manner. 

Compensation is based on geographic location and individual pay decisions will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

Corporate Positions: In addition to the base salary, may be eligible for an annual performance bonus that is based on individual and company performance.

Onsite Property Positions: In addition to the base salary, may be eligible for a discretionary weekly, monthly and/or quarterly bonus based on budget.
